Employment Authorization Document Update

If you received an employment authorization document (EAD) to work in the United States and you are eligible to renew the EAD, then you may be eligible for an automatic extension of your employment authorization for up to 540 days depending on your employment authorization category.

Due to historically long processing times, USCIS has temporarily increased the automatic extension from 180 days to 540 days through October 26, 2023 for certain cases, including refugees, asylees and asylum applicants, TPS-granted applicants, VAWA applicants, and those with pending adjustment of status applications. Cases filed after October 26, 2023, will receive an automatic extension of only 180 days.

We encourage applicants eligible to receive an automatic extension of up to 540 days to file their renewal applications before October 26, 2023 to have this additional year of automatic employment authorization while the EAD application is pending.

Don’t hesitate to contact Migration Resource Center as soon as possible to determine your eligibility for the automatic extension and to file renewal applications.
