MRC Granted Recognition & Accreditation Status

March 2, 2017

Migration Resource Center (MRC) was granted Recognition & Accreditation (R&A) by the Department of Justice, Office of Legal Access Programs (OLAP). Recognition status authorizes representatives of non-profit organizations to represent persons in proceedings before Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

At the same time, Frederik Stefani and Amy Soloway were Accredited as authorized representatives of MRC. Amy was given permission as a specially qualified non-lawyer to represent non-citizens before the DHS. Frederik was given fully accredited status to represent non-citizens before both DHS and EOIR.

The purpose of the R&A process is to increase the availability of competent, non-lawyer representation for low-income and indigent persons. It is also intended to reduce the likelihood that such persons become victims of fraud and abuse.
