New Kid on the Block: My Journey with Migration Resource Center

Hello MRC Community!

My name is Kelly Ready, and I’m the new kid on the block. I just joined MRC in October as an Outreach Coordinator and Paralegal, and couldn’t be more excited to help this organization support immigrants in establishing and sustaining their lives here in the U.S.

I’m a recent graduate (‘17) of Northwestern University, and have always had a passion for helping others and engaging with international communities. Some of my favorite courses in college were those that addressed global issues, and I have always been interested in learning about the impact of international and domestic policies in both our home communities and in communities across the world. Naturally, immigration has been an area that has long held my interest.

I decided to apply for a position with MRC in the hopes of learning more about the U.S. immigration system and to discover if a career in immigration law is the right fit for me. Only three weeks into my new role, and I can say that I am well on my way to achieving those goals. MRC has given me ample opportunity to learn via observation and hands-on work, and I’m lucky to have the support of colleagues like Alexia Carrera and Rebeca Plascencia to help me “learn the ropes.” I have even sat in on a few client consultations, and am amazed by the care, compassion and expertise that MRC brings to its work. The day-to-day activities of MRC truly create a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of immigrants, enabling them to be with their loved ones and to build up a more stable and secure life. I couldn’t feel more grateful to witness this impact, to learn, and to help grow the presence of MRC here in Phoenix.

If you’re interested in keeping up with the Phoenix office, we’d love for you to follow us on our Facebook page.
